People have been talking about gourmet food trucks for quite a while now. I first heard of them last summer when there was buzz going around about Tyler Florence's Great Food Truck Race. Unfortunately though, the show hasn't aired in Canada...yet. Atleast not that I know of. But I can just imagine imagine, authentic vietnamese food, different kinds of pudding, gourmet hamburgers, French cuisuine (foie gras), lemongrass chicken tacos....yum! Why can't this come to Toronto?
Ali Wentworth went to LA to sample some of the food from the trucks as part of a segment she did on Oprah. Take a look - http://www.oprah.com/oprahshow/Taste-Testing-the-Food-Truck-Craze/1
Jon Stewart's entrance on to the Oprah show the other week was hilarious - http://bit.ly/dbePyH. He was on the show promoting his "Rally to Restore Sanity" taking place in Washington, DC, on October 30.
The Daily Show's Rally to Restore Sanity is "for people who've been too busy to go to rallies" - the busy majority. It looks to be an event for any sane, normal person to take a step back and look at their country and say "it is really not so bad." To put things into perspective, to provide a little comic relief, to encourage people to take things less seriously, and to poke fun in the ones who ruin it for the rest of us. What does this all mean? Who knows, but it should be lots of fun and…
As we all know, pretty much anything Oprah supports ends up becoming a gold mine. Although this is not surprising, I always love hearing about great “pay it forward” success stories she’s involved in. Here’s one profiled on her recent “Making Ultimate Wildest Dreams Comes True” show.
Oprah and Gayle visited Cape Cod for Eunice Kennedy Shriver's funeral last year (2009). One of the owners of a local pie shop, Centerville Pie Company, decided she was going to personally deliver their infamous "chicken pie" to Oprah's hotel room. Needless to say, security was tight. She wasn't allowed in, but the pies made it in and into the hands of Oprah and Gayle <as an aside, I'm actually quite surprised they tried them, but hey, guess it's possible>. They both agreed that it was…
Whoever knows me, knows I'm a HUGE Oprah fan. In fact, there's probably not a day that goes by that I don't talk about her show. Crazy, I know, but true.
Anyways, her farewell (and 25th) season began on Monday and I sat down to watch the first episode tonight and I was just blown away - the tears, the die hard fans, the surprises, the special moments. Anyone that watches the show will certainly appreciate it.
There was one story though that truly touched my heart. A die hard fan from Calgary was watching Oprah's 50th birthday special and John Travolta gave the following toast: "You are a citizen to mankind and we are better for knowing you." To her, this speech moved this women and inspired her to be a better person. To make a long story short, her and her daughter went to Africa, spent time at an orphanage and left wanting to do more for the kids. They ended up raising funds and traveling back…
